St. Grigor Church

According to the historian Archbishop Stepanos Orbelyan, the Church of St. Gregory of Syunyats Monastery (later renamed to St. Hovhannes) was founded by Princess Varazdukht of Syunyats before the Armenian era. In front of the monastery, the princes of Syunyats built a royal house and a royal residence. The church of the VII century. in the last quarter, Prince Kohazat and Bishop Hovsep I of Syunyats (670-689) thoroughly rebuilt it with the help of the monk Theodoros Sion. Archbishop Stepanos Orbelyan considered the Syunyats monastery to be the third among the Syunik monasteries in terms of its importance.
